Party Season has begun !
But wait. This was no ordinary Christmas Party. No cold sausage rolls, no paper hats …. And definitely no cheesy DJ shouting down the mic every 2 minutes.
This, ladies and gentlemen. Was “The Night Circus’. Let me explain.
The Night Circus – Kent
Home Gurr’own are an amazing catering company based in Kent. Run by the lovely Nicci & Sophie. We have bumped into these guys throughout the Wedding season and have always been totally wowed by their food (and fed well …. Always a bonus on a 14hr day).
Holmstead Events are essentially an open air events space, with 3 Tipi’s. Available to hire for almost any occasion. Weddings, Birthdays … and yes, you may have guessed – Corporate Christmas Parties.
So, it goes like this.
Home Gurr’own & Holmstead Events work together throughout December putting on a number of Events (some ticketed, and some pre booked – Like the one we did) – So they decided to join forces and become the very cool “Twisted Bramble” – A combination of exquisite food and spectacular events.
So on the 1st December. We loaded up the van and made the trip over to Kent to DJ at The Night Circus.
Corporate Event DJ
On arrival, I made my way into the Tipi’s, which had been lined with black and white striped interior cloth to recreate a Circus atmosphere.
After setting up, I had a little walk around too meet some of the other performers who would be dong there thing on the night.
I met Dan, from a company called Zenzero Events, who explained that he was proving stilt walkers and fire breathers throughout the evening.
Nicci & Sophie had also arranged aerial acts to keep the guests entertained throughout the night. Both of which had short sets in between my DJ set.
I started off my set at 7pm, keeping it chilled and relaxed for the guests, who arrived to Champagne on entry. Many of them headed straight to the Twisted Bramble Bar, situated in a smaller tipi that was joined to the larger main area.
During this initial initial period, I was surprised by Sophie from Home Gurr’own, who handed me the most immense plate of freshly made Malaysian Curry I have ever tasted.
Definitely what I needed to get through the next 5hr DJ set.
The drinks flowed, and the fire breathers took to the dance floor. Much to the amazement of the guests, who had by now, started to loosen up a bit.
It was time to start upping the tempo of the DJ set.
8pm rolled around, and at this point, I figured I’d given the guests enough time to get the social chit chat out of the way.
People had started to edge ever so closer to the dance floor. Always a good sign for any DJ.
By 8.30 the party was in full swing. The crowd was much younger than I anticipated, so I moved onto playing some stuff from the current UK Top 40 a lot sooner than I usually would, the younger guests seemed up for an early dance, so why not give them what they wanted.
Throughout the night, I introduced the aerial acts – One on “The Silks” and the other on “Aerial Hoops” – Both of the performers were excellent and had the crowd staring up in awe.
Cantium Solutions Giveaway
A quick raffle from one of the Directors at Cantium, giving away golf days, TV’s and even a “days annual leave”.
Then it was back to the party, and this time there was no slowing down.
Some old school R&B, a bit of House, and finishing off strong with some Indie Bangers, the crowd lapped it up and filled the dance floor until the last song.
The Pogues – Fairytale of New York.
Circus or not – It is still Christmas !!
